amóinít

Tá pictiúr de chlog fíor-aisteach sa bhlagmhír roimhe seo. An rud a chonaic mé ann ar an toirt ná amóinít. शालिग्राम शिला (Shaaligraam Shilaa) a thugtar ar an rud seo san India, mar a n-adhraítear í mar chomhartha de chuid an dé Vishnu. Tá ceann agam a thug cara liom ar ais léi ó Nepal níos mó ná fiche bliain ó shin. Ní adhraím í, ach is seoid bheag í mar sin féin.

Is cosúil go bhfuil amóinítí le fáil in Éirinn freisin, mar a bhfuil, nó a mbíodh, béaloideas ann a cheanglaíonn an “cloch nathrach” le Pádraig Naofa. Seo an méid a scríobh an lia Sasanach Andrew Borde sa bhliain 1542 sa leabhar dar teideal The Fyrste Boke of the Introduction of Knowledge:

I have sene stones the whiche have had the forme and shape of a snake and other venimous wormes. And the people of the countrie sayth that such stones were wormes, and they were turned into stones by the power of God and the prayers of saynt Patrick.
