Seo “slisneach” a scríobhadh go luath sa séú haois déag sa LS 1347 atá anois ag Coláiste na Tríonóide agus atá ar fáil ar líne ó ISOS. Máel Íosa, a bhí ina scríobhaí, a chuir an LS le chéile.
Tá creatlach an tslisnigh sách simplí. Ó thús deireadh níl ann ach abairtí i bpéirí atá ceangailte le chéile sa phatrún seo: Mad(h)am X, bid(h)am Y. Mad(h)am Y, bid(h)am Z, Mad(h)am Z … agus mar sin de.
Ní scríobhtar “madam” leis an -d- ach uair amháin, in “madam rimar”. Sna habairtí eile feiceann muid “ma am”. Is féidir nach raibh sa ‘d = dh’ lárnach sin ach hiatus i nGaeilge an scríobhaí a bhreac síos an slisneach.
Foirmeacha den chéad phearsa uatha den chopail atá sa dá bhriathar sin a leanann a chéile tríd síos:
mad(h)am = if I were
bid(h)am = I will be
Tá cuid de na focail eile, ainmfhocail agus aidiachtaí, réasúnta cinnte, ach níl le déanamh ach buille faoi thuairim a thabhairt faoi cuid eile díobh ag an bpointe seo. An liosta:
ruire = overlord
ruanaid = ruanaidh = strong man
sempar ~ seampar = “semper” na Laidine = lasting, eternal
condiulg ~ condelcc = coindealg = covenant; counsel
rímar = rí mór = great king ?
soichlech = soichleach = liberal, generous, hospitable (DIL)
dreablaing ~ dreblaigg = (1) drabhlainn - trifler, idler; absurdity, sheer nonsense. (2) snarling, grumbling; grinning (Dwelly) ??
dobur = dobhar = dark, obscure
sindal = sindal < sinnal < sinneall < so-inneall ??
luamain = luain = movement, vigorous exertion, hard work (FGB)
ealcmur ~ elcmur = elcmar = envious, spiteful (DIL)
idhland ~ idhlantt = (1) fidlann - a piece of wood used in divination and hence the divination itself (some kind of rhabdomancy or xylomancy (DIL); (2) iodhlann - bound, burst, spurt, blast (FGB)
ind righ = an rí = the king
